Lewis & Co. is at the forefront of the green building movement and been recognized for our commitment to innovation and perfecting groundbreaking technologies and techniques involved with green building. We offer the option to clients to build to the ANSI ICC National Green Home Standard. This program outlines a point system with categories, including: Site/lot design, preparation, and development, resource efficiency, energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, landscape design, and operation, maintenance and buyer/owner education. A minimum amount of points has to be reached in all categories to obtain certification: Bronze (15% higher than EnergyStar certification), Silver, Gold, and Emerald.
Through this program, we use a combination of common sense design and cutting edge building materials and construction methodology so that projects built to this standard have a significant reduction in utility bills (60%+), carbon footprint, construction waste, and the overall impact of construction on the environment. Indoor air quality is greatly increased and works to eliminate allergies. This program also qualifies buyers/clients for federal and state tax credits, loan discounts, and local/regional rebates and discounts depending on the specific project site. It also gives recognition locally, regionally, and nationally.
T. C. Lewis & Co. has the unique ability to convert any traditional plan to obtain green certification, while maintaining the integrity of the look and style of the home. We are the Mountain South’s most experienced, knowledgable Green Building company and offer consulting services to builders and developers. We offer “light green” to “off the grid” construction with implementation of solar panels, wind turbines, graywater capturing/cistern systems, and geothermal technology.
We employ the Mountain South’s first EcoBroker (Haize Lewis) - a licensed real estate agent trained in green construction and design to better assist clients with marketing certified green properties for sale, or finding certified green properties to purchase/lease. We have a HERS Rater and Green Verifier on staff to quantify energy efficiency and verify green construction. We also provide consulting services for builders and owners of existing homes about improving energy efficiency.
T. C. Lewis & Co. has also been integral with the development of the Northeast Tennessee Green Building Council and its continuing efforts to work with area municipalities in recognizing and rewarding green builders and buyers of certified green homes/buildings. Cory Lewis (President) was the founding Chairman of the Northeast TN Green Building Council.
